Image Privacy & Metadata
Many online editors require uploading your image. imgflip.xyz edits locally in your browser, which reduces privacy exposure.
What is metadata?
Metadata is extra information stored with an image file. Depending on the device/app, it can include camera model, timestamps, orientation, and sometimes location (GPS). Not every image has it, but it’s common for photos taken on phones.
Why local editing helps
- No upload means the original file isn’t transmitted to a third-party server for processing.
- You keep control over where the file goes (and who can access it).
- Edits happen in memory inside your browser.
Export note
When you export a new PNG/JPG from a canvas, it typically contains only pixel data (not the same original metadata). Behavior can vary by browser, but the exported file is generally “cleaner” than the original.
